Make-Up Policy

Due to the Ongoing nature of classes at MAP, we offer something that few studios do.

If you are sick or have booked acting work, MAP students will be eligible to attend a make-up class within 60 days of the original missed class, with some stipulations for us to be able to offer this.

You MUST let admin@mapactors.com know 24 hours in advance. You may let your scene partner know, but this is optional.

Make-ups are not guaranteed. We will try to let you know when there is likely somebody away (this is where giving us notice is important for others to be able to book in), however if you are not able to make your schedule work in the 60 days, after the missed class, to accommodate a potential spot, the class will no longer be eligible for make-up.

There are no make-ups for missed portions of the Orientation course.

Invitation Only Classes

Some classes at MAP are invitation only. These classes often have MAP members who have been studying at MAP for many years. Many things are considered when inviting actors in.

Are the actors in active Ongoing classes? - Members who are in other Ongoing classes and working / flexing their artistry each week are more likely to receive an invite. It is not simply a case of taking time off till there is a spot that opens up in an invitation only class.

Would this class serve them well? - Often the invite only classes may have auditors invited to watch. We want people to feel comfortable to explore the artistry in their acting and being in process, without any potential pressure that external auditors may bring, to serve up a ‘final product’ or ‘good’ acting.

What are the artist’s talkbacks like? - When placed in a group, with actors who have been exploring the practice at MAP for years and may have been working in the industry for a long time also, some artists may feel the need to compare their practice with others. We often will consider what an actor’s talkbacks are like in their existing Ongoing class. For example: Do actors find the most useful frame for growth in their talkbacks regarding their practice? Is their resistance to celebrating what they enjoyed?

Workstudy

To help with the Ongoing nature of classes at MAP, we sometimes have positions attached to specific classes, where a student can help out at the studio and receive discounts off class. Please email meredith@mapactors.com if you would like to speak about this. As mentioned, this is to help with the Ongoing nature of class and students who are consistently in class will be given priority.
